Ruta A. Geringer, 76

Ruta A. (Dumins) Geringer, 76, of Hopkinton, where she has lived for the last 7 years, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at the U Mass Medical Center in Worcester.

Formerly of Bothell, WA, she was born in Skaistkalne, Latvia, the daughter of the late J.A. and Anna (Steinbergs) Dumins, and immigrated to the U.S.with her family in 1949.

Ruta was known for her big heart, gentle spirit and love for The Lord.  She took extended family into her home and loved them like her own.  Some of the fondest memories shared of her cherished nieces and nephew’s youth include her singing songs and playing piano, as she always carried a smile and a song for them.  She had a love of dance, which she passed on to her children.  Ruta studied and performed Russian ballet, was a children’s ballet teacher and a ballroom dance teacher. As a dedicated grandmother she regularly shared her love of reading and cooking with her granddaughters.

The wife of the late Kenneth Geringer she is the devoted mother of two daughters, Christina M. Offutt of Dublin, Ireland and Catherine A. Sweeney and her husband Bill of Hopkinton. Sister of George “Juris” Dumins of Seattle, WA, and grandmother of Samantha, Alison, and Heather Sweeney of Hopkinton. She is also survived by several nieces and a nephew, whom she has left an everlasting impression on.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 10 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 20 Church St., Hopkinton. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.

Visiting hours at the Consigli-Ruggerio Funeral Home, 46 Water St., Milford, will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, from 5-7PM.

Guest Book

To Ruta's family and friends, please accept my heartfelt condolences on your loss. I was drawn to her obituary, as I too have a passion for dance, especially ballet. It's so hard to lose someone we love, but the seeming finality of death is what makes it especially difficult. Job 14:14,15 gives us confidence that Jehovah God yearns to bring back to life the dead who are preserved in his memory. The Bible gives us a wonderful hope of living in a paradise on earth and seeing the resurrection of our dead loved ones. (Luke 23:43; John 5:28,29) May this bring you some comfort and strength, remembering that soon God will wipe away our tears and swallow up death forever, and Ruta can once again "leap" for joy. (Isaiah 25:8)
