Josephine L. Capuzziello, 101

Josephine L. Capuzziello, 101 years, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 18.  Born on June 25, 1916 she was the daughter of Donato and Luisa (Simone) Ferrucci. A lifelong Milford resident, Josephine was educated in the Milford school system graduating from Milford High School in 1935. She attended and graduated from Milford Hospital School of Nursing in the Class of 1940. Her first job was as a visiting nurse in Bellingham for the District Nursing Association. Civic interests included being actively involved in Camp Fire Girls  and the Four H Club; she was Treasurer of the Quinshipaug Women’s Club for many years, and a certified nurse working for the American Red Cross, a health clinician for Draper Corporation and a nurse in Hopedale Schools. She was an active member of the Milford Artist's Guild, having won many awards for her oil paintings. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Woman’s Club.

She was known as “Miss Josephine” to the hundreds of dancers at the Deane School of Dance and the Greater Milford Ballet Company. She enjoyed learning new things and always read books, magazines and newspapers, attended lectures and classes. Taking advantage of the evening classes offered by the school system she learned how to sew and made beautiful and fashionable clothing. She learned to braid rugs, refinish and reupholster furniture and the art of decorative Tole Painting and oil painting on canvas. There are over 80 pieces of her artwork on display appreciated by many friends and family.

Baptized Roman Catholic she was a communicant of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Milford all her life. She observed holy days and attended Sunday Mass faithfully. When at church, she was especially proud to point out the round stained glass window to the left of the main altar donated by her parents. The names of Donato and Luisa Ferrucci are inscribed in the window. Josephine never forgot being born and brought up on the farm. She was a gardener and advocate of all things homemade all her life.

Her children and grandchildren enjoyed many meals with the produce from her bountiful garden. She happily served pasta e fagiole, swiss chard and yellow bean soup, fava beans cooked with onions and stale bread, fried zucchini, and tomato and cucumber salad. All of this special gourmet cuisine was served with a loaf of Mazzarelli’s French bread and Devil Dogs for dessert. She passed down many traditions to her family including the Christmas Eve Vigil and Easter meals. She showed them her love of the fine arts and gave them appreciation and support for all their accomplishments.

She is survived by her daughter, Frances and her husband Michael Stone, son, Thomas and his wife Elaine, and daughter Susan and her husband DJ Diomedes from Alta Loma, California. Grandchildren are Paul, Melissa and Jennifer Capuzziello, Claire and Sean Robinson, Carolyn and Chris Stone, Giorgia Diomedes, Danette and Jonathan Tull, David and Amy Diomedes. Great-grandchildren are Camryn Cherella, James Robinson, Sofia, Lorenzo and Nicolas Diomedes, Mia and Noah Tull and Lucy and Isla Diomedes. Also surviving are her brother Attilio Ferrucci, five sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law and many extended family members. Josephine is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Frank Capuzziello, brothers Joseph, Tony, James and Rudy Ferrucci and sisters Carmella, Mary Longo, Rose Trotta, and Virginia Riccardelli, and a grandson Dean Diomedes.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Newton Wellesley Center for Alzheimer’s Care for the tender and loving care they gave to “Mama Josay.”

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 9 A.M. at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church 7 East Main St. The burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Consigli Ruggerio Funeral Home 46 Water St.

To Josephine's family and friends, please accept my heartfelt condolences on your loss. It's so hard to lose someone we love, but the seeming finality of death is what makes it especially difficult. Job 14:14,15 gives us confidence that Jehovah God yearns to bring back to life the dead who are preserved in his memory. The Bible gives us a wonderful hope of living in a paradise on earth and seeing the resurrection of our dead loved ones. (Luke 23:43; John 5:28,29) May this bring you some comfort and strength, remembering that soon God will wipe away our tears and swallow up death forever. (Isaiah 25:8)
