Catherine (Kay) Mabey DeTore, 97

        Catherine (Kay) Mabey DeTore, in her 97th year, passed away peacefully on March 23, with family by her side. Wife of the late Alfred (Fred) DeTore, Kay was born in Somerville, Ma.  The daughter of Arthur and Geneva (Hiltz) Mabey, Kay grew up in Milford, graduating from Milford High School in 1942. Kay then joined the U. S. Cadet Nurse Corp and graduated from Somerville Hospital. In addition to being a Wife and Mom, Kay’s nursing career included working at Milford Hospital, Director of Nurses at Hopedale Garden Nursing home and Nursing Supervisor at Wrentham State School. Kay was a past Fellow to the American College of Nursing Home Administrators, Charter member of the Women in the Military, Washington, D.C., Board member Bellingham Council on Aging, Member of the Building Committee for the Bellingham Senior center and was a member of the Board of Directors of Tri Valley Elder Services.

    In 2009, Kay was the recipient of the WMRC Delia Nasuti DeMase “Silver Spirit Award” for her generosity of spirit and dedication to the community. Kay also participated in the Nurse’s Health Study. Kay leaves a son James and his wife Jean, two daughters, Helena and Kathleen, wife of late William Hunt. Two Grandsons, Michael and his wife, Christine, Matthew and his wife, Shannon. And “Great Gram” to Five Grandchildren, Lilliana, Jadyn, Gabriella, Cameron and Dylan. Grand dogs Oreo, Sadie and Ben, and family pet, Pluto. Kay also leaves, many loving Nieces, Nephews, great nieces and nephews. Kay was preceded in death by her 2 sisters, Geneva (Jean) DeTore Smith and Ruth Pederson. Retirement brought many opportunities for Kay to enjoy travel, bowling, bingo, day trips to various locations, and activities at the Bellingham Senior Center with her many caring and loving friends.

    The funeral services and burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.

     Arrangements are under the direction of the Consigli Ruggerio Funeral Home 46 water St. Milford MA.

    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bellingham Senior center, 40 Blackstone Street, Bellingham, MA. 02019
