Once again, my condolences to David and all the Lopes family. Dr. Lopes was Human Resources Officer during both my vice-presidency and presidency of Framingham State University. He helped me with numerous personnel issues, and joined me faithfully for all interviews with personnel with particular issues or problems. I was always glad to welcome him to these meetings, and he always came armed with what became his well-known yellow legal pad, on which he recorded meticulously all the events and conversations of these meetings. I depended on his good advice and also, over the years, upon his faithful friendship. Rest in peace, dear Joe. Helen Heineman, President Emerita, Framingham State University

Dr. Lopes was one of the most authentic and passionate persons we were privileged and grateful to know. Among his many other ventures to promote good in this world, he was a trailblazer in education and showed sincere care for and belief in his students by opening their eyes to opportunities, inspiring them to keep learning, give back to their community and be the best they can be in this world. It is so sad to hear of his passing. My heart goes out to the family for the loss, but know that he will always be remembered in many people’s hearts.
