Joaquina “Jackie” Mendes, 88, of Milford, passed away peacefully, Monday, April 8, 2024 at the Milford Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of 47 years, to the late Joao Mendes. She was born in Peirezes, Portugal, daughter of the late Jose and Ermilinda Antunes and moved to Milford in 1975 with her family. She retired as a machinist from Kidde-Fenwal, where she was a dedicated employee for many years.
Devoted Catholic and communicant of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church, avid gardener and skilled in crocheting. She is survived by her five children, Jose Luis Mendes of Northbridge, Maria Adelina Mendes of Milford, Cidalia Lucci of Lincoln, Rhode Island, Ana and her husband Derek Atherton of Milford, and Christina Mendes of Franklin. Her 6 beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth and her husband Anders Overstorm, Derek Mendes, Alexandria, Daniella and Ryan Atherton, David ‘Ric” Lucci, and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her three siblings, Ana Goncalves, Antonio Mendes, and Maria Cruz. Her most treasured times were being surrounded by her cherished grandchildren.
The calling hours will be held Friday, April 12th from 9:30 to 11:30 AM from the Consigli-Ruggerio Funeral Home, 46 Water St. Milford, MA. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at the St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church on 17 Winter St., Milford at 12 PM. The burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery on Cedar St.
