Charles (Chip) Thomas Pattin, age 77, of Lebanon, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on November 3 rd at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative & Hospice Care at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Chip faced his cancer journey with incredible strength, courage, and a resilient determination to live each day to its fullest. His devoted wife, Maryann, was his dedicated and loving caregiver throughout his illness.
Chip was the son of the late Emil Charles Pattin and Elinore Carline (VonHartmann) Pattin. He and his sister, Elaine, were raised in Paramus, New Jersey, where he graduated from Paramus High School in 1966. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska, in 1970, and later continued his studies in business at the University of Nebraska. Chip enjoyed a long and successful career as a senior sales engineer in the high-tech industry, working for TDK, AMP Inc., and several other companies across New England.
Chip and his beloved wife, Maryann (Laronga) Pattin, shared an enduring love over 52 wonderful years of marriage. They began their life together in Illinois before settling in Mendon, Massachusetts, where they raised their cherished daughter, Dr. Kristine (Krissy) Pattin Giffin. Together, they shared a passion for travel, exploring destinations across the United States and throughout Europe. Among their many adventures, Italy held a special place in their hearts, as it offered opportunities to spend time and make memories with their overseas relatives. An enthusiast of the arts, Chip had a lifelong love for the theater, both local and Broadway productions. He delighted in taking Krissy and her friends to plays and musicals, inspiring in them a shared love for the stage.
An avid golfer and skier, Chip treasured time spent on the golf course and the slopes, especially on family ski trips to Vermont and New Hampshire and outings with his close friend, Joe. Nine years ago, Chip and Maryann relocated to New Hampshire to be closer to their daughter and to welcome the birth of their grandson, Asher Pattin Giffin, in 2016. Known lovingly as “Papa,” Chip found immense joy in spending time with Asher, teaching him golf, refining his baseball pitch, conducting science experiments, and taking him and his friends on adventures to the bowling alley, movies, and museums.
Chip will forever live on in the hearts of all who loved him. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Maryann; his daughter, Krissy, and her husband and much loved son-in-law, Matthew; and his adored grandson, Asher. He is also survived by his sister, Elaine Monroe (Frank); brothers-in- laws Robert Laronga (Sharon) and Victor Laronga (Mary); nieces Jennie Laronga and Kerry Black (Ben); nephews Robert Laronga Jr. (Stefania), Steven Laronga (Sakti), Mark Laronga (Kimberly), and Ryan Monroe (Anna); ten great-nieces and nephews; and many lifelong friends who will cherish his memory.
Chip’s family extends their heartfelt thanks to all who provided compassionate and dedicated care during his time at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and the Jack Byrne Center. They are especially grateful to Dr. Matthew Sullivan (hematologist), Kyle Morgan (mobility technician), Katie Mansfield (caseworker), the hematology team, and the many nurses and LNAs whose kindness brought comfort to Chip and his family. Deep appreciation is also extended to the home care team with the Visiting Nurse Association of New Hampshire and Vermont for their attentive support.
In accordance with Chip’s wishes, cremation will take place, and burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Milford, Massachusetts. There will be no calling hours. Committal services will be private and held under the direction of the Consigli-Ruggerio Funeral Home.
