Romana A. (Berardi) Ferrecchia passed away peacefully on November 15 at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. She was the wife of Gennaro Ferrecchia, who predeceased her in 1990. A lifelong resident of Milford, Roma or “Auntie Ro,” as she was known to her family, was born there on August 22, 1929, the eldest of six children of their loving mother, Maria. Roma graduated from Milford High School and attended Burdette College in Boston. She spent some time working at Porter Shoe and later owned a fabric store in Milford. But that was before the most important part of her life: her family. Roma raised two devoted children, Lisa and Adam.
Her backyard pool was always a hub of activity with nieces, nephews, siblings, and cousins gathering together every summer. When she wasn’t spending time with family, she enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles and was an avid cross-stitcher – usually while listening to her “stories” in the background. Auntie Ro’s other great love was sports. She was a diehard Red Sox and Patriots fan. She enjoyed making wagers with family members during championship events … usually for “one big buck.”
In addition to her two children, Roma is survived by her sister, Rita Nealon of Milford, her brother Matteo Berardi and his wife Marilyn of Lynnfield, her brother Dr. Robert Berardi of Milford, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband along with her brother, Dr. Romeo Berardi and sister, Mary Sayles.
Visiting hours will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Thursday, November 20 at Consigli Ruggerio Funeral Home, 46 Water St, Milford, MA 01757. A funeral home service will be held at 1 P.M. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Boston Children’s Hospital.
