Leroy Grant Boutwell, 93, also known as “Pat”, died peacefully August 13th at Christopher House in Worcester after a period of declining health. Pat was born on May 31, 1924 in Nashua, NH to the late George E. Boutwell, Jr. and the late Ruth (Palmer) Boutwell. He grew up in Pepperell, MA, moving to Hopedale in 1967. He had been employed as a truck driver for Holmes Transportation in Framingham until his retirement in 1989.
He was a World War II Army veteran from 1943 to 1946, assigned to the 442nd Replacement Company in North Africa, and later transferring to the 988th Signal Operation Company during the China Burma India Theater, which was awarded the Citation for Meritorious Service as a unit in 1944.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking and playing bingo, and he was a member of VFW Post 3291 in Pepperell, MA.
He is survived by his wife, Blanche (Landry) Boutwell, and his daughters, Susan Niro and her husband Daniel of Milford, and Christine Mita and her husband, Stephan, of Holden; three grandchildren, Jennifer Niro of Tampa, FL, Jason Niro and his fiance’ Elizabeth Maynock of Foothill Ranch, CA and Grace Mita. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters, Beverly Winslow of Needham, Dorothy Wilson of Leominster and A. Lorraine Amsden of Hollis, NH. Funeral services will be private, and there will be no calling hours.
