Maria Goncalves Fraga Pereira, 89, of Milford, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Northbridge. She was the wife of the late Jose Pereira who passed away in 2003. She was born in Antigo de Curros, Portugal daughter of the late Domingos Augosto Fraga and Bemvinda Goncalves Ferreira. Maria emigrated from Brazil to the United States in 1961, where she met and married Jose Pereira, her husband of 42 years. She was a seamstress at Anthony Roberts in Milford until the shop closed. She then worked as a cook at Cushing Hospital, Framingham and The Glavin Center in Westboro.
Maria loved to spend time in her garden and loved to sew. She was an amazing cook, her Portuguese shrimp cakes were legendary. She loved the beach and enjoyed trips to her homeland. Her generous nature was known by everyone. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and family. She was a communicant of the St. Mary of the Assumption Church.
She is survived by her children, Marcia Pereira and her husband Ed Woytasek of Medway, Jose Domingos Pereira of Milford, two grandchildren, Marek Woytasek and Sasha Woytasek of Medway, four sisters, Aldina Goncalves and Carolina Goncalves both of Milford, Marcelina Fraga and Alice Pereira both of Brazil, many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sibling, Ana Goncalves Fraga of Portugal, Pedro Fraga and Domingos Fraga Milford and Jose Fraga of France.
The funeral will be held Friday, March 16, 2018 at 9 A.M. from the Consigli Ruggerio Funeral Home 46 Water St. Milford. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 A.M. at the St. Mary of the Assumption Church on Winter St. The burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Thursday from 5 to 8 P.M.
