Mary Louise Devine, 87,

Mary Louise Devine, 87, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2020 at St Camillus Health Center located in Whitinsville, MA. She was born June 11th, 1933 in Staten Island NY, the youngest of four daughters to the late Michael and Michelina Pistilli. After graduating from Curtis High School she married the love of her life, the late John Devine, and together they raised 2 children, MaryAnn and William. Mary spent many years as a secretary at St Vincent’s Hospital Rehabilitation Department in Staten Island, where she was known for her attention to detail and outgoing personality by those who had the opportunity to know her.

Mary loved music and art, learning four- part harmony with her sisters during their younger years and performing compositions at various community engagements in Staten Island. Mary also found other ways throughout her life for creative expression, including the art of sewing, playing the keyboard, and penning original poems, songs, and even short stories. Her rendition of Christmas songs during the holidays will be sorely missed and her personal works will forever be treasured by loved ones. As a longtime fan of the Turner Classic Movies channel, Mary also loved watching movies and sharing her vast cinematic knowledge of the golden age with family and friends. The daughter of an Italian immigrant, food and family were very important to Mary. Known for her homemade gravy and meatballs, she always took pride in furnishing full bellies at her table. Visits to her home in NY always meant a meal made with love and the recipes passed down to her daughter and granddaughters will ensure her legacy carries on.Mary lived life on her own terms with a unique sense of charm and stubbornness, two qualities Italian grandmothers take pride in possessing. She will be missed by family and all those who had the opportunity to be a part of her life.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, John Devine. She is survived by her two children, MaryAnn and her husband Frank Kurjanowicz of Medway, MA,, and William Devine of Monticello NY. In addition to her children, Mary is survived by her two grandchildren and their husbands, Laura Kurjanowicz and David Solari of Franklin, MA, Beth Kurjanowicz and Paul Leoncini of Milford, MA; Three sisters, Nancy Peters of Hempstead NY, Libera Rampulla of Staten Island, NY, and Eleanor Langworthy also of Staten Island, NY, and many nieces, nephews, and grand- nieces and grand-nephews whom she loved deeply.

The family would like to thank the staff at St Camillus Health Center, Salmon VNA and Hospice, and Milford Regional Medical for the exceptional and loving care our “Nana” received. Also special thanks to Bonnie McGovern RN of the Salmon VNA for her longtime care to Mary.
