Doris Yvette Charland/Ostrander, 76, of Auburn Massachusetts, died June 2, 2021 at home surrounded by her beloved family and fur-babies.
Doris was born on October 30, 1944 in Holyoke Massachusetts to Mary Fernande Dutilly and Paul Emile Charland. Following completion of her schooling, Doris joined the Army in 1974 where she was attached to the 10th Aviation Battalion as a Crew Chief. She received awards including Fort Lewis Safety Award as well as multiple Letters of Commendations. She received the Battalion Award of Excellence after completing more than 42,000 accident-free flight hours while performing her duties. Ironically, Doris never spoke of this award and enjoyed telling all who would listen about her survival of a Huey helicopter crash landing after a paratrooper’s reserve parachute became entangled in the rotor system. Making her way to rank of E-5, Doris was well known as “Sarge-in-charge” to those who knew and loved her.
Doris was so full of life and was always on the go. She was happiest when she was shopping or dancing with her granddaughter Gianna, getting hot dogs and ice cream with her granddaughter Tahiry, traveling to P-town and Ogunquit Maine as well as fishing with her wife Adrianne, and hosting Christmas Eve and Thanksgiving for her family and friends that she made her family. Doris was one of the most loving, caring, and giving people you could ever meet, and she will be greatly missed.
Doris is survived by her beloved wife Adrianne Nichols, her children; Sara Nichols, Michael Nichols, Jake Nichols, and Anna Nichols, and her grandchildren; Gianna Nichols and Tahiry Williams, as well as her fur-babies Princess and Say-Say.
