William “Walter” Arkerson Jr., 69

William “Walter” Arkerson Jr., 69, of Myrtle Beach, SC, died Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Agape Hospice Facility in Conway, SC.  He was the husband of Caroline (Martin) Arkerson, and best friends for over 12 years prior.  He was born in Framingham, MA, son of Eva (Howland) Arkerson of Framingham, MA, and the late William Arkerson Sr.
He graduated from Framingham High School, class of 1960.  After graduation he began 8 years of service for the National Guard.  He also began his professional career as a model maker and machinist for Fenwal Inc. located in Ashland, MA. While working at Fenwal, he and his team were given the task of creating the ignition and monitoring system used in the “Eternal Flame” for the late John F. Kennedy. He also worked part-time as a police officer for the Ashland Police Department.  After running his own property management company Arkerson & Associates for many years, he began working for the Milford National Bank as property manager, and then retired in early 2009.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his two sisters Roberta Barbara of Pasadena, TX and Marjorie McGrath of Framingham, MA, his son Jeffrey Arkerson and his wife Robin of Cumberland, RI and two daughters Corinne Arkerson of Orlando, FL and Michelle Cartier of Plymouth, MA. He is also survived by his step daughter Donna Risteen and her husband Richard of Plymouth, NH, step son Richard Martin and his wife Christie of Plainville, MA, and step son David Martin of Dedham, MA.  He also leaves 10 grand children and 11 great grand children.  He was predeceased by his brother Donald Arkerson.
He loved all of his grand children dearly, and enjoyed spending much of his time with them. He took full advantage of everything life had to offer. He enjoyed many activities, such as motorcycling, boating and flying.  He also trained for and received his pilot license while working part time at the Hopedale Airport. He enjoyed being out on his boat the most.  With his family and friends he enjoyed the good times, good weather and grilling enjoyable meals while relaxing on his boat, the “Sweet Caroline.”  Over the years he formed many close friendships while boating in the Onset Bay area.
After spending most of his life in Massachusetts, he went on several vacations to Myrtle Beach, SC.  Drawn by the mild winters, palm trees and friendly people, he eventually decided to purchase a home, and later moved there in early 2009.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 27, 2012, 10 A.M at Consigli-Ruggerio Funeral Home Inc. 46 Water St, Milford, MA, 01757. Burial will follow at the Hopedale Village Cemetery.  Calling hours will be Thursday, January 26, 2012 from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M.

Walter was such a wonderful father-in-law to me. He cared so much for his family and would do anything for us. I knew that I could count on him and I was grateful to have him in my life. He brought us so many happy memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life. I will miss him dearly, but I know he is looking down on us. I look forward to sharing with Tristan what a great grandpa his was and how much he loved him. Love you! Robin

I have always referred to you as uncle Walter due to our difference in ages. As we got older the age difference didn't matter so much. Still called you Uncle Walter as a tease, I will remember our fun times together. Family was so important to Walter. You were so happy to finally have your sweet Caroline living with you in south Carolina! You wanted to share your home with us but we never made it down. Lesson learned-do not put things off. You were kind, fun,and a man of your word. I will miss you so much! May your life be for a blessing! I pray for peace for you and your family.

Dear Walter's Family: Please accept my sincere sympathy for your loss of a great guy. You don't know me but I met Walter about 4 years ago when he rented a storage unit from me for the bank. We discovered we were both planning to retire to Myrtle Beach. Since then I held on to a card Walter gave me with the Metherton Ct address and phone number. Our agreement was to meet up some day. I hope he enjoyed his time there. My wife and I are still planning our retirement there. I hope all of you treasure your memories of one stand up guy.

Words can not express or describe what kind of person Walter was. My daughter, Robin was blessed to have him as her father-in-law. He was the perfect example of what a Dad, Grandpa and friend should be. We had the pleasure of spending a few days with him in SC, and his hospitality was amazing. He opened his home to us, gave us tours of Myrtle Beach with such pride to be living in such a beautiful place, and made us feel like we have known him all our life. May God Bless you, Walter and know that you are thought of with love, we will miss you.

Uncle Walter, you were greatly loved and you will be greatly missed. I take comfort in the fact that you're with my dad now.
Alicia Arkerson

where do you start when your heart is breaking. My brother was my rock, he was the glue that kept this family together. I had a vision the night my brother passed away, I saw my two brothers walking hand in hand and then they put their arms around each other and walked in this beautiful wooded area towards the most beautiful water you've ever seen. Donnie left us two years ago and loved to hunt, Walter loved the water, this gives me comfort to know they are together again. I love you Walter, you and Donnie left some big shoes for me to walk in but I have your strength and will make you both proud. You had lived with pain for several years but in the end all you worried about was your family not yourself. Rest in Peace, I'll see you again when it's my time.

I'm writing today to say I missed the chance to enjoy a visit with my friend. Walter's passing is a great loss to us all....he has left us too soon. A friend is a friend to the end whereas Walter and I have known each other for 54 years. Walter's love for his family will never be forgotten; he was always available to his three children, Corinne, Michelle and Jeff; his very precious grandchildren Karina, Nick, Alesia, Hannah and Tristan were the ultimate fulfillment constantly shown with his immense love for them. Thanks for everything my friend. I leave you with great sorrow....goodbye my friend.
Patricia Smith

I Love you Walter and I am honored to be known as your favorite ex-son in law
