Evelyn F. (Abbondanza) Allegrezza 93,

            Evelyn F. (Abbondanza) Allegrezza 93, of Milford, died Tuesday September 4, 2012 in the Beaumont Nursing and Rehabilitaion Center in Northbridge. Evelyn Allegrezza was born in Milford on August 27,1919 to Italian immigrants, Sebastiano and Concetta (Calzone) Abbonanza .  She was one of nine children, seven daughters and two sons, and grew up at 50 East Main.  She attended Milford Schools, graduating in 1937, and was a noted tennis player.  She met her husband to-be-at, Anthony, while both were members of the Sacred Heart choir and they were married in 1940.  Anthony died in 1975.
         Mrs. Allegrezza was very active in civic and religious organizations for many years.  She was Town Meeting member and was elected to the Milford School Board, serving two terms.   She served as President of the Quinshipaug Womans’ Club, Rotary Anns, the Cancer Society and Milford Hospital Ladies Aid Society.  She was a volunteer at the Milford Hospital for ten years.   She led fund raisers for the Red Cross and the Cancer Fund, and served on the Board of the Salvation Army.  She started one of the first Cub Scouts packs in Milford, and was a member of the Milford PTA, serving as President.  In 1980, she was named Woman of the Year by the Milford Junior Women’s’ Club. In later years, Mrs. Allegrezza enjoyed travel, taking many trips to Europe, South America, and throughout the USA.  She was ready to sit at any available piano and lead her fellow travelers in all the oldies.  She was a talented card player, whether at bridge, gin or poker with her friends, or Go Fish with her grandkids.
       She is survived her three sons, Anthony and his wife Judith (O’Connor) Allegrezza Jr. of Milford, Gregory and his wife Michelle (Szady) Allegrezza of Milford, and Marc and his wife Brenda (Rutana) Allegrezza of Northbridge, one sister Mildred Bresciani of Hopedale, nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.   She leaves many friends, both in Milford and in Sun City, Arizona, where she lived for eighteen years.
      She was predeceased by her brothers Alfred Abbondanza, Charles Abbondanza, five sisters Eva Stone, Anna Bird, Lillian Mazzarelli, Dorothy Abbondanza and Gloria Grenier.
      The funeral will be held Monday, September 10, 2012 at 9 A.M. at the Consigli-Ruggerio Funeral Home 46 Water St. in Milford MA. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 A.M. in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church 7 East Main St. Milford MA. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
      Calling hours are Sunday from 5 to 8 P.M
