Cecile R. Gardella, 80,
Cecile R. (Poirier) Gardella, 80, of Milford, where she has lived for 35 years, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014 in the Milford Regional Medical Center. She was the wife of Joseph W. Gardella of 59 years.
Cecile was born in Fall River, MA, the daughter of the late Frederick and Laurent (Levesque) Poirier, she was a graduate of Durfee High School, class of 1951, and St. Anne’s Hospital, School of Nursing, class of 1954, where she received her RN. She had worked as a Registered Nurse until her retirement in 1998, having worked at the former Claflin Hill Nursing Home, and Beaumont Nursing Center. She was an avid knitter and quilter, and enthusiastic Boston sports fan. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren on the shores of Sanibel Island FL, Cape Elizabeth ME, and Dennis, MA. Her Sunday family dinners included lively debates on any number of subjects in which she was always a vocal contributor.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her 7 children, Mary Louise Johnson of Scarborough, ME, Elizabeth Gailor of Milford, Joseph W. Gardella Jr, and his wife Joanne of Chocorua, NH, Judith Silva and her husband Brian of Coventry, RI, Jeffrey Gardella and his wife Patricia of Milford, Christopher Gardella and his wife Cheryl of Douglas, and Francis Gardella of Milford. Sister of Larry Poirier of Fall River, Clarice Flannery of Bristol, RI, Muriel Flannery of Swansea, MA, and the late Maurice Poirier, Paul Poirier, and Jeanne Parissee. She is also loved by 13 grandchildren.
Visiting hours at the Consigli-Ruggerio Funeral Home, 46 Water St., Milford, will be on Monday morning from 8-10AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 at the St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church on Winter St. in Milford. The burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Oliva Patient Comfort Fund at Milford Regional, 14 Prospect St., Milford, MA 01757
