Steve spent his career as a sales manager with several baking companies including Table Top, Drakes, Hostess, IBC and Bimbo Bakeries. After his retirement Steve worked as a substitute teacher at Hopedale Junior/Senior High School. He was a passionate amateur photographer and spent many, many happy hours on the fields of greater Hopedale capturing the students’ precious memories of their athletic events, school plays and academic achievements. I have had the pleasure of knowing Steve for the past 5 years at Hopedale and saw the impact he had on the community and the families. He is one in a million and I am so blessed to have met him. My thoughts and prayers are with the Bassignani family. Steve's legacy will live on through the countless photos he took and for that we will be forever grateful. Rest easy Steve - you will be in our hearts forever.

I knew Steve from photographing Milford High Varsity Football. We talked a lot about photography, among other things. I was saddened when I learned of his illness. I, considered myself very fortunate to have seen and had gotten to speak with him this past year at the field. My sincere condolences to his family. He was one of the better people in the world. Blessings to all.
William Carter

Steve and Judy were the perfect next door neighbors and friends for over 35 years. Never an issue. Not one. Everything was great. Only time Steve would get mad at us if we didn't use his swimming pool during the day. He told us that is what the pool was there for. Judy, however, did get mad at Steve and me one time. We were burning brush on a Saturday and somehow ended up putting holes in the new swimming pool cover. Not a good day for Steve. Will never forget when Steve decided to to try photography. Said he was bored and needed a hobby. He used to come over our house and practice with his new cameras on Katie and Kevin as they played sports in the backyard. The kids were 5 and 9 years old and I believe the first picture he took was of our children. As Steve improved as a photographer and continued to buy new equipment, he used to practice a lot with our kids playing sports in the backyard. We had a rule that right after school, before the kids could play outside, they had to do their homework. This was no problem for Katie, however, for Kevin, a different story. He used to stand at our window facing Steve's house, hoping Steve would come over and bail him out. We used to tell Kevin to get started on homework, but he would tell us he needed to wait cause, " Steve might need him." As soon as Kevin saw Steve outside, Kevin was out the door, working with his buddy. So many great memories with Steve. He did so much for so many. One thing I will always remember is how hard he worked to take pictures of all the kids. If a game was a blowout, and no matter how cold out it was, he would stay til the end to get a picture of a student athlete who might not play a lot. In the last 20 years, I don't think we ever went to a graduation party without seeing Steve's work prominently displayed. That was his gift to all of us. Steve was a great guy every day and we will always miss him. Condolences to Judy, Adam and Anthony and thanks for sharing Steve with all of us.

It’s hard to believe we’ve been neighbors for 38 years. During that time, we’ve coached our kids baseball and basketball teams, played basketball in our driveway, shared chauffeur responsibilities for Halloween with the kids trick or treating for candy while Steve and me did the same, except for beer, from our neighbors. Helped each other with home improvements with Steve assuring me he wouldn’t let me fall while hanging 40 feet in the air painting the peak of his house. Ring dings, devil dogs and other assorted goodie’s left at our house and finally babysitting our house in our absence. Always ready with a friendly Steve smile, a joke or two and a friendly and compassionate demeanor. You will be missed by the Lavelle family and not forgotten, with many fond memories of you to remember. Bob, Ann

Sending love to the Bassignani family. Steve was such a selfless, kind person who always gave his time to others. We will forever cherish all the amazing photos Steve took of our girls throughout their high school years - the memories are captured forever because he was always there with his camera. He was woven into the fabric of Hopedale and will be forever missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Judi and family during this difficult time. Love the Bourgeois family.
Jenn Bourgeois

Steve always let me use his sports pass for Hopedale sports as he was allowed one guest. He also got me on the field at the Patriots stadium for the high school Superbowls. After the games we attended we at times had a few beers at "The Greenhouse". Steve always drove to the sports events. I considered Steve a true friend as all of Hopedale did. As far as photography Steve was always willing to take photos for not only Hopedale but other communities as well. Rest easy my friend. Robert A. Mulrey

There is nothing more I could possibly say about Steve that hasn't already been said. For me he was a friend for many years. Always willing to help anyone if they needed it. Over the years he has helped me on many occasions not to mention the endless hours he devoted to helping the Hopedale Youth Baseball League. Hopedale lost a great guy and I lost a great friend. Rest in peace my friend.

It has been over 50 years since I met Moose at NASC. We were friends from day one joining the same fraternity. Recently Bill Devita and I would go to Legion Baseball games and once we saw Moose we yelled out take our picture. He would take the players first than he would take ours and e-mail them to us. We will miss you, Bob Derderian

We have so many photos that Steve took over the years of our son, many of which are displayed in our home, were part of our Christmas cards or even given as gifts to family. He allowed us to truly enjoy the games knowing that he would be taking phenomenal photographs of our kids. He was a large part of our little community and he will be sorely missed. Our deepest sympathies go out to Judy, their sons and family as well as his many friends.

I had the privilege of working for Steve as a spare driver at Drake’s Bakeries (from a different depot) and then when he was a supervisor for Bimbo Bakeries. He was always professional but also damn funny, he always had a story and it was told with his trademark smile. I truly admired his photographic work whether it was his sports pics or outdoor/nature pics. I’m so sorry to his family for his loss, he was one of the finest people I have ever known. He will be missed.

Thank you Steve Bassignani for capturing the highs, the lows, and the moments in between. On a personal level and as the former President of the Milford Scarlet Hawks Football Club, I was so incredibly thankful and grateful to have you at our games. You made every player feel seen and important. The thousands of pictures you captured over the years allow us to relive those special moments and you live on in those moments. My heart and prayers are with your family and friends. Thank you so much for creating memories and showing us all your kindness and your larger than life smile. 🤍

Steve was one of a kind. He was there for all important town events, graduations, plays, sporting events, etc. But more than his photography, he also became our friend, teacher, and cheerleader (without the uniform)! Steve was so genuine and kind. We loved him and we will sorely miss him. Rest in peace, my friend. Thanks for sharing yourself with Hopedale, and thanks for the memories!
Kathy Riley
