George "Sonny" Edwin Miller, 91, a life-long resident of Hopedale died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his close family on March 26th, 2024. George was born in Milford,MA on April 19, 1932. He was the only son of Edwin Miller and Rose (Caram) Miller of Hopedale. He will join his loving and committed wife in eternal life, Elaine (Welch) Miller. George is survived by his sister, Marilyn Wheeler of Daytona Beach, FL and his three daughters; Susan Pastorini of Jacksonville, FL, Linda Mills of Port St. Lucie, FL and Patricia Miller of Hopedale, MA. He also leaves behind two nephews, Robert and David Wheeler; four grandchildren, Tina Ryan, Lisa Pastorini, Brian Pastorini and Daniel Pastorini and three great-grandchildren, Ella Rose, Jack and Sadie Rya.
George graduated from St. Mary's High School in Milford in 1949. He then served in the US Army, as a code interceptor during the Korean War, where he was stationed in Alaska. Upon return from his military service, he worked for the Draper Corporation in Hopedale where he advanced his career from draftsman to a mechanical engineer- he worked there until its closure in 1979. He also worked at 3M and the Dennison Corp. prior to retiring.
George spent every summer at his cottage on Newfound Lake in NH where he enjoyed swimming, fishing and boating. He knew basically every statistic about his all time favorite sports team, the Boston Red Sox, often winning trivia contests about the subject. He was a long time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Milford. He also enjoyed playing card games including Cribbage, Pitch and Rummy 500 with friends and family. He cherished his time spent with his three great grandchildren and it brought him incredible joy watching them grow.
George will be remembered for his kindness to others and his commitment to family above all. He was a devout Catholic and a life-long, dedicated member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hopedale where a funeral mass will be held on Tuesday April 2, 2024 at 10 A.M. The burial will follow in the Hopedale Village Cemetery.
