Margaret "Peggy" Pauline (Protz) Viens, 100,of Hopedale passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 22nd in her longtime home surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Born on June 1, 1924, in New Bedford, MA, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna Krumholtz Protz. She is predeceased by her husband Elmer Viens (Hopedale), her two sisters Pauline and Veronica, her three brothers, Frank, Vincent and Bernard, and her son-in-law Phillip LeMarbre. Peg’s mother died when she was young, and she helped to raise her five siblings. She and Elmer married after he was home from World War II and moved from New Bedford to Hopedale. Peg worked in the insurance industry throughout her career and upon retiring she enjoyed traveling, volunteering, yoga, spending time with her 14 great-grandchildren and puzzling. Those close to Peg would say she had a fierce love for See’s Chocolate and a good Manhatten- in her later years she had to switch to a “tiny” hatten (a much smaller version).
This past June, she celebrated her 100th birthday and it was a truly special day, surrounded by her friends and family and a lobster roll truck.
She is survived by her children, Jessica LeMarbre (Hopedale, MA), Ann and Bill Peyser (Bethesda, MD), and Andrew and Linda Viens (Whitefish, MT). She leaves behind her 11 grandchildren, Danielle and Joe Sullivan (Melrose, MA), Stephen LeMarbre and Melissa Teodoro (Lexington, MA), Joelle and Rob Silva (Northbridge, MA), Cody and Lea Duffin (Kalispell, MT) Matt and Megan Viens (Tucson, AZ), Lindsay and Joel Carlson (Gilbert, AZ), Jenn Viens (Kalispell, MT), Nikki and James Green (North Andover, MA), Allie and Mike Lavallee (Blackstone, MA), Jeffrey Peyser and Qihua Fan (Richmond, VA), and Carolyn Peyser and Mark Meiselbach (Baltimore, MD). And of course, her 14 great-grandchildren.
