Velia F. (Andreano) Melpignano, 92, of Milford, passed away February 10, 2017 at the Countryside Healthcare in Milford. She was the wife of the late, Joseph R. Melpignano, who passed in 1984. She was born in Milford, daughter of the late Clemente and Mary (Diorio) Andreano and was a lifelong Milford resident. She was a graduate of the Milford High School class of 1941. She was employed as an executive secretary for various companies in the Milford area.
She was a communicant of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Milford, a member of the Milford Italian American Veterans Women’s Auxiliary, Women’s Bocce league, and an avid bowler in the Milford area. After her retirement she was very involved with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Richard J. Melpignano of Bellingham, David L. Melpignano of Groton, Ann and her husband Robert Robichaud of Milford, five grandchildren, Sarah Melpignano, John Melpignano, Amanda and her husband Matthew Hobin, Stephanie Rua and Philip Rua, one great-granddaughter, Carleigh Ross, many nieces and nephews.
She predeceased by her brother, Robert Andreano and her sister Joanna Gonsalves.
The funeral will be held Monday, February 13, 2017 at 9 A.M. from the Consigli-Ruggerio Funeral Home, 46 Water St., Milford. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 A.M. at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 7 East Main St. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 4 to 7 P.M.
