Alphonso L. “Fudgie” Calzolaio, 86,
Alphonso L. “Fudgie” Calzolaio, 86, of Milford, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2014, in the Countryside Healthcare in Milford. He was the husband of the late Louise K. (Beccia) Calzolaio who passed away in 2012. He was born in Milford son of the late Luigi and Celia (Santagata) Calzolaio and lived in Hopedale before moving to Milford.
He was a World War II Army Veteran serving in Japan and attaining the rank of Sgt. Upon returning from the war he returned to school and graduated from the Worcester Boys Trade school in Worcester class of 1948.
Mr. Calzolaio retired in 1995 from the Town of Milford where he was employed as head custodian in the Milford Town Hall. He was well known for the different holiday decorations on the clock tower of the Milford Town Hall. He was previously employed as a shipping foreman at the former Stylon Corp. in Milford. He was loved by his family and friends.
The Calzolaio family would like to thank all the staff at the Countryside Healthcare for the love and patience they gave to Mr. Calzolaio.
He was a communicant of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, a member of the V.F.W Frascotti Post, Milford Italian Veterans, No Name Club, and the Men’s Bocce league at the Milford Italian Veterans. He is survived by his sons Mark Calzolaio and his wife Maria of Milford, David Calzolaio of Lynwood, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bruce Stratton and his wife Joanne of Milford, two grandchildren, Chris Calzolaio and his wife Alicia of Milford, Scott Calzolaio of Milford, one great-grandchild Jude Calzolaio of Milford, many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother Ralph Calzolaio and his sister Rose Callery.
A mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 11 A.M. at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church 7 East Main St. Milford. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Calling hours will be held prior to the funeral mass from 8:30 to 10:30 A.M. in the Consigli-Ruggerio Funeral Home 46 Water St. Milford.
